FASCINation

The objective of the FASCINation project is to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise between the Department of Geography (UGent), the UFR de Géographie et Aménagement (University Lille I) and the Earth and Life Institute, Environmental Sciences (Université Catholique de Louvain). Focus is given to the impact of recent innovations in the combat against aggravated soil erosion in farmland. This especially includes the recent implementation of vegetation barriers (Fr. fascines) in Nord-Pas-De-Calais, Flanders and Wallonia, and the study of their implementation and success in altering runoff and ephemeral gully erosion dynamics and preventing muddy floods. FASCINation was initiated in 2017.
