Kick-off workshop Appraising risk, past and present

On October 16-17th the Department of Geography organized the kick-off workshop of the partnership “Appraising risk, past and present: Interrogating historical data to enhance understanding of environmental crises in the Indian Ocean World’. This project, anchored at the Indian Ocean World Centre at McGill University (Canada), is funded by Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and has a seven year research agenda. The partnership will examine the social, economic and political impacts of past and recent natural disasters on the world's most populous region. This workshop brought together twenty representatives of the nearly two dozen universities and centres across the globe involved in the project.
