The project GeoMobiel won the annual award for science communication on the 20th of October 2016, granted by the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts and the Young Academy. Since many years, the Geography Department of the University of Ghent organizes interactive workshops for students in high school. These workshops, where young people discover the world of GIS, satellite images, topographic devices, GPS ..., want to promote technical professions such as surveyor, cartographer, GIS expert and geo-ICT professional. In 2014-2015 an inter-university cooperation involving employees of the VUB, KU Leuven and Ghent University, supported by the Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, acquainted students all over Flanders with geography and geomatics. This cooperation has now been awarded with the annual award of science communication.
