On November 7th a delegation of Ghent University under the direction of professor Rik Van de Walle, rector of UGent, met professor Wu Yueliang, vice-president of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and other colleagues of UCAS and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences). CAS englobes 117 research institutes, with more than 22 000 doctoral candidates and 7000 doctoral supervisors and is the most important research organisation in China.
During the meeting ongoing and future collaborations were discussed, including exchange programs in education and research. Special attention was paid to the Sino-Belgian Joint Laboratory for Geo-Information between Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (CAS, UCAS) and the Ghent University. UCAS and the Ghent University's joint PhD program was selected in the China Scholarship Council's (CSC) international collaborative innovative talent program.
