Kristien Ooms

Kristien Ooms (°1984, Hasselt) holds a Master's degree in Geography (Geomatics) and a Master's degree in Applied Informatics, both obtained at Ghent University.

Since 01/2008 she works in the Department of Geography (Ghent University)as an assistant which involves educational activities on topics including cartography, GIS and informatics.

The main goal of her PhD research is to improve the quality of (screen) maps towards the user. She uses eye movement data to study how map users look at map, to obtain a better understanding in how these users interpret, store and process the visual information presented on these, often highly dynamic and inderactive, maps.

These insights are crucial to create more effective maps for different types of users.
